The Carle Honors 2009
Tickets are now available for the 4th Annual Carle Honors Benefit Gala and Awards Ceremony, which will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the Midtown Loft & Terrace in New York City. Join us in honoring the ingenuity of individuals who are dedicated to the art of the picture book and its integral role in fostering art appreciation, early literacy, and critical thinking.

This year’s distinguished roster of Carle Honors recipients includes renowned artist Alice Provensen,
First Book Co-Founder and President Kyle Zimmer, celebrated editor Walter Lorraine, and Cricket magazine and Carus Publishing Founders Marianne and Blouke Carus. Each has brought a wealth of talent to the field of children’s illustrated literature, which they have used to expand audience and support for the same.

This year’s Carle Honors will feature our second annual Artists Auction of original works of art donated by some of the industry’s most celebrated artist, including:

  • Molly Bang
  • Bryan Collier
  • David Kirk
  • E.B. Lewis
  • Barbara McClintock
  • Giselle Potter
  • Chris Raschka
  • Matthew Reinhart
  • Chris Van Allsburg
  • David Wiesner
  • Ed Young
  • and more still to be confirmed

The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with cocktails and a light dinner, and the opportunity to participate in the silent auction Presentation of awards will begin at 7:30 pm with industry artists to introduce each honoree. Last year’s event was filled to capacity with guests including Museum founders Eric and Barbara Carle, past and current Carle Honors recipients, and representatives from the field of children’s illustrated literature, early childhood education and advocacy, and children’s media.
