The Carle Honors
The Carle Honors is the annual benefit gala for The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. Held in New York City and hosted by Eric and Barbara Carle, guests of the Honors include Museum patrons and board members, leaders in the field of children’s illustrated literature, representatives from early childhood education and advocacy, celebrities, and children’s media. It is increasingly known as a “can’t miss” event.
At the heart of the Honors is a constellation of awards celebrating those individuals whose creative vision and dedication are an inspiration to everyone who values picture books and their role in arts education and literacy. The awards recognize individuals in four distinct forms:
- Artist, for lifelong innovation in the field;
- Mentor, editors, designers, and educators who champion the art form;
- Angel, whose generous financial support is crucial to making picture book art exhibitions, education programs, and related projects a reality; and
- Bridge, individuals who have found inspired ways to bring the art of the picture book to larger audiences through work in other fields.
In recent years, The Carle Honors has also featured an art auction with original works of art donated by some of the industry’s most celebrated artists. This art is available on display in the weeks leading up to the event at Books of Wonder, 18 West 18th Street, New York City.
Tickets for the Honors can be bought individually or in blocks. Sponsorships include name and logo placement, media listings, and additional benefits. Educators have the opportunity to receive sponsored tickets.
