The Eric Carle Museum is committed to providing the community with quality programming in the arts. Our small classes are taught by professional instructors and are designed to encourage students to make, appreciate, and think about art. Through connections with a range of materials and techniques we hope to promote a greater understanding of the visual arts.

Spaces and Places

Ages 5 – 7
Students will explore materials, techniques, and their own creativity as they work with others in creating places and spaces, both imaginary and real. Picture books and original art in the galleries will be used to inspire conversation and one’s own imagination.

Making Art Together: Painting
March 12, 2010

Fridays, March 12, 19, 26, April 2, 9
Ages 3-4 each with a caregiver (Class size 4-5 children)
Enjoy time exploring color with your young artist while you learn about ways to nurture visual expression at home. Paint, oil pastels, and found objects will be among the materials we will use to explore color relationships present in art and nature. After class you are invited to join us for the 10:30 storytime in the Reading Library.

Printmaking
April 3, 2010

Ages 8-10 (Class size 4-10 children)
The perfect opportunity to explore the processes and possibilities of printmaking. Participants will explore linoleum and woodblock prints created by Eric Carle and Antonio Frasconi, design and print their own images, experiment with color and exchange prints with each other.

Book Arts for Beginners

Ages 5-7 (Class size 4-8 children)
Experiment with paper and printing to create one-of-a kind books. Inspiration drawn from the artist’s books and wood block prints of Antonio Frasconi on view at The Carle, and our own collaboration will result in a mini-library of artfully made books to take home.
