Alice & Dorothy: Parallels and Perpendiculars

In conjunction with the exhibition, Over Rainbows and Down Rabbit Holes: The Art of Children’s Books, Barry Moser will chronicle the development of his designs and illustrations for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and focus on the theme of the voyage solitaire, the political implications he reads in the text, and the parallels and perpendiculars he draws between Baum’s Dorothy and Carroll’s Alice. Book signing to follow.
Galleries open from 6:00 to 7:00 pm for browsing.

Hip-Hop Aesop will have you dancing and singing from your seats while inspiring an appreciation of theater, literature, and classic folklore. For audiences of all ages.

Annual Librarian’s Open House with Jim Trelease

2 PDPs. Free materials for your libraries, afternoon refreshments, and two presentations — one with Barbara Elleman, guest curator of the Virginia Lee Burton exhibition, and the other with Jim Trelease, author of the million-copy bestseller, The Read-Aloud Handbook and Carle Honors recipient.

Professional Development Workshop
Design and Documentation

6 PDPs. Participants will explore and experience the connections among observation, listening, and visual communication as tools for teaching. The session will focus on Italian- and Reggio–inspired approaches to early childhood education, the Visual Thinking Strategies, and how graphic design can be used to foster greater engagement with art and learning, while highlighting the relationship that exists among design, documentation, and multiple languages of expression.
