Our Picture Book Puzzler this week is in honor of our new exhibition, Monsters & Miracles: A Journey through Jewish Picture Books.
What famous children’s book, originally titled The Adventures of Fifi, made a narrow escape from a besieged Paris during World War II with its creators on a homemade bicycle?

This is the beginning of CURIOUS GEORGE.
Curious George!
Curious George!
Raffy and the 9 Monkeys… I think it was.
Curious George?
That’s right. Curious George’s creators Hans and Margret Rey escaped Paris with only a few possessions – one of which was their manuscript of Curious George (at the time called The Adventures of Fifi). An official stopped them while crossing their border, but liked the book so much, he let them through. What an amazing story! If any of you are interested, we sell a wonderful book about this called The Journey That Saved Curious George, which goes into much more detail about this remarkable true story behind such a beloved classic.
