Art Studio Intern Project: Paper Adventure Maps

In the Spring semester of 2016 the Art Studio hosted two interns: Aibhlin Hannigan and Shannon Dover from the University of Massachusetts Amherst?s class of 2017. Together, they designed and hosted a special activity on a Saturday afternoon during the run of

Materials in Motion

Boats, airplanes, wagons and cars are on the move in the colorful illustrations by Leonard Weisgard, and an exhibit of his art work is currently on view in The Carle's East Gallery in the show, Magician of the Modern: the Art of Leonard Weisgard. Using an assortment of found materials from the restaurant supply store and our own collection, guests recently made sculptures inspired by things that go.

Homemade Texture Rubbing Plates

The Art Studio has a long history of offering texture rubbing plates to add visual texture to art work. We?ve used them to add interest to collage cats and birds, and in at least a few other collage projects. Doing texture rubbings with young children can be a bonding experience because they sometimes need another hand or two to help them! READ MORE
