Book Festival 2016

Celebrate and Play Games at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art’s 11th Annual Children’s Book Festival

(Amherst, MA) – May 23, 2016) Draw, jump, explore, and create at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art at the 11th Annual Children’s Book Festival: Games Galore on Saturday, June 4th, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Inspired by the exhibition, The Art of Eric Carle: Hide & Seek, the event celebrates games—from scavenger hunts and board games to art projects and outdoor fun! All activities are free with Museum admission.

Let the games begin! The Museum and its lush grounds will be the setting for group games, board games and more. Families can play oversized games like Connect Four, Checkers or giant Jenga, as well as enjoy a nature scavenger hunt through the Museum’s apple orchard. See a performance by the amazing Yo-Yo People. Games Galore also welcomes local artists. Artist, author and teacher, Emily Neuburger will organize an art activity where guests can have fun preparing hairdo shaped papers. Artist and author Jeff Mack will read from his new book, Playtime?, followed by a book signing. Visitors can also create their own board games in The Carle’s Art Studio.

“Eric Carle’s current exhibition showcases his playfulness with the images and letters he hides in his artwork. We thought we would take his fun with games and joy of nature and make it our festival theme,” said Director of Education Courtney Waring.  “It’s a great day to have fun with your family.”
