Simmons College Seminar: David Wiesner and The Art of Wordless Storytelling

June 17, 2017

Free; reservations required

Have you thought about graduate studies in Children's Literature?  Or you're finally ready to engage in that Master of Fine Arts program to write for children or young adults?  Join us for a few hours to experience first-hand a graduate seminar in Children's Literature led by faculty from the Center for the Study of Children's Literature at Simmons College.  From 1-4 pm, we'll consider the conventions of the picturebook as an art form; then we'll look at Wiesner's work as visual metafictionality; and finally, we'll engage in some creative writing.  From 4-5 pm, we'll go on a private tour of the David Wiesner special exhibition; and from 5-7 pm participants are invited to the Members' Reception to hear from the artist.

This seminar is a great way to give your interests a spin and to test-drive the nation's first graduate program in Children's Literature. Seminar faculty include Cathryn M. Mercier, Ph.D.; Megan Lambert, originator of the whole book approach; and Jeannine Atkins, author of Finding Wonders: Three Girls Who Changed Science (2016). PDPs and CEUs available.

Free, but space is limited. Reservations required.
Email info@carlemuseum.org to reserve your space.
