Planting a Community: Gardening Books

Whether it’s a plot in the community garden, magical topiaries in the neighborhood or even the imaginary gardens we share with family, growing and tending plants together unites us all. The Carle Bookshop booksellers share their recommendations for picture books that celebrate growing and planting.

A Garden of Books: A Booklist

Tending to plants, whether it’s a pot on your windowsill or a garden plot outside, teaches us all so much about science, patience, and growth. The booksellers from The Carle Bookshop has put together an extensive list of picture books all about gardening, perfect for families and educators to learn more about growing and planting, both inside and outside the home.

Women Weavers

The Carle Bookshop reviews picture books that feature weaving. Two picture book biographies and one out of print favorite, these books are all lyrical, sumptuous homages to the craft of weaving, celebrating an often overlooked craft that is both artistic and practical. The bookshop staff also shares some of their own weaving projects!

Picture Books for Navigating Tough Emotions

We think picture books are an excellent medium to start conversations with people of all ages about their feelings. In honor of Mental Health Awareness this month, the booksellers at The Carle have selected a few recommendations for books that can help readers navigate complicated feelings.
