Family Collage Workshop

Last weekend a few creative families joined us for two hours of collaging together!

Collaging Paper Cats

Purple cat, purple cat, what do you see? Well, if purple cat visited The Art Studio this month she would see lots of colorful paper kitty friends perching, playing and purring in our Kitty Cafe!

For this project, everyone starts with a large organic shape for the cat's body, then cut their own shapes out for the head, legs, tail and other details.

Materials Spotlight: Folia Transparent Paper

This lovely array of colors is a stack of Folia Transparent Paper. It has become a go-to material for some of our programs and it continues to be a favorite material of our Art Studio guests. It wasn't originally included in The Art Studio's Favorite Materials list because it's not widely available. Nor, to my knowledge, is a similar paper offered by other manufacturers. Sometimes it curls a bit when loaded with glue or paint, but kids are usually so happy with its translucency and bright colors that they are willing to put up with a little fussing to work with it. It's kind of a crazy idea that small square stamps in the corner of postcards or envelopes is the only ticket needed for your pictures and words to travel distances near or far. Eric Carle Inspired Collages

I wanted to share with you the collagy characters that are appearing in The Studio recently. The current project is Carle-Inspired Collages and we are using tissue paper and drawing tools, materials inspired by Eric Carle's picture book illustration process. We offer this project every year and it continues to be a favorite with guests who visit us from around the world during these warmer summer months.
