Making Art Together

At Home Art Studio

As an Education team at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, we are all about bringing people together around picture books to create shared experiences. Art Studio is a hands-on, material-focused, all-ages space, where we have lots of materials within easy reach, and we can share artmaking techniques with family groups and individuals. With our staff currently working from home, we want to figure out how we can create an Art Studio space within our homes and maintain the creative community that we experience every day at The Carle. Setting a Space for Inspiration: Materials Play

In planning for the Materials Play Program, we specifically design art experiences with our toddler guests, and their caregivers, in mind. In the past two quarterly sessions, I have been really interested in continuing our thoughts about setting a space for inspiration by re-imagining the back part of our Art Studio for whole body exploration. In other words, I wanted each art experience to be immersive, focusing on limited materials, and tailored to toddler interests. In The Art Studio, we are fortunate to have a lot of different spaces. We have a display case, an entrance space, a Toddler Area, wall space, window space, shelf space, table space, and even ceiling space!
