Picture Books We Love

Go Wild at Our 9th Annual Children’s Book Festival!

The Carle is gearing up for the Annual Children’s Book Festival on Saturday, June 7! This year’s theme is inspired by What’s Your Favorite Animal?, a new picture book by Eric Carle & Friends, featuring 14 talented authors who share stories and illustrations about their favorite animals.  We’ll celebrate creatures big and small with storytimes, films, face painting, and a museum-wide animal scavenger hunt—and we have an amazing lineup of authors and artists to join in the fun!

Guests can see the original artwork from the book in The Carle’s gallery and watch the picture book come to life with presentations from special guest authors Nick Bruel and Peter McCarty, two contributors to What’s Your Favorite Animal?. Bruel is also known for his laugh-out-loud Bad Kitty series, and McCarty is author to many books about rabbits—his favorite animal—including Little Bunny on the Move and Henry in Love. The two will sign books and discuss how their love of animals led them to contribute to Carle’s new book.

We’re excited for Bruel’s newest Bad Kitty book, Drawn to Trouble.

Cat- and dog-lovers who enjoyed Peter McCarty’s Caldecott Honor book Hondo & Fabian--Make sure to pick up the sequel, Fabian Escapes!

Kids of all ages are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animals to the Museum and get creative with their cuddly companions. In the Art Studio, guests can make houses for their furry and feathered friends and create their own matching animal ears. Choose your favorite animals from a ton of fun animal plush toys and puppets here in the Shop!

Local artists Diane deGroat, Astrid Scheckels, David Hyde Costello, and Jeff Mack will draw sketches of guests’ stuffed animals. A book signing will follow each artist’s drawing session.

We hope to see you there! If you can’t make it to the event, you can always reserve autographed books online and have them shipped to you.
