Holiday Giveaway: Eric Carle Doodle

It's time for our last holiday giveaway! In celebration of The Carle's 10th Anniversary, three wonderful artists have given us original doodles to share with our friends.  Two lucky readers have already won doodles by Peter Laird and Tony DiTerlizzi. This week we're offering the opportunity to win a doodle by Eric Carle. The doodle is an original sketch, autographed on 9" x 6" heavy cardstock. We love the Caterpillar! Do you have a favorite character from one of Eric Carle's books? Last month at our 10th Anniversary celebration, Eric Carle and his wife Barbara spoke to guests and friends about the journey of creating The Carle Museum and reflecting on 10 amazing years. They thank all the friends and supporters that have made this museum possible and the experience of visiting The Carle special. It's worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z58kt9EAHB4 We had such a wonderful anniversary weekend last month and look forward to all the years full of fantastic events, exhibits and friends. Thank you again to Eric Carle, Peter Laird and Tony DiTerlizzi for all their support and for the hours they each spent doodling for fans. We are so grateful for the opportunity to give our blog readers the chance to win one of their pieces of art! Want to win this autographed Caterpillar doodle? Eric Carle's books are favorites around our house, slowly slowly said the sloth, heads to toes tells us yes we can as we do yoga to that book but our all time favorite is of course a pop from egg to become a very hungry caterpillar...and it all started with a blue horse. Love his work!

We visited the Eric Carle Museum over the summer, and it was truly amazing! My husband and I are both teachers and love reading Eric Carle books to our students. We even have an Eric Carle take-home backpack program filled with books and arts and crafts that the children can work on with their families. Happy New Year 2013!! All the best!!

We planned our vacation around a visit to the museum last summer. It was definitely a highlight for me, as I am an elementary teacher and lover of children's literature, and illustrations, especially. My pick for favorite character is the Very Hungry Caterpillar. The book was a favorite of my own children and the transformation into a butterfly at the end of the story is a great surprise for kids.

The very hungry caterpillar! This is mine and my daughters favorite. I started reading it to her when she was only 2 months old. Now we read it atleast twice a day. This was also the theme of her first birthday party! We love this book! :)

I would have to say it's THE VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR. It was my son's first book and we got to meet Eric at the Northampton site for my son's fifth birthday. Ten years later, my son got to take his little cousin to meet Eric at the Amherst museum. My son was just as excited as she was to see Eric again. And yes, at 15 years old, he wanted his own copy of Eric's newest book THE ARTIST WHO PAINTED A BLUE HORSE. But the caterpillar will always be our fave because it introduced us to Eric's world.

My daughter is 4 months old and her favorite is the very hungry caterpillar. She has a plush toy that she loves to play with! Her crib set is the same and we have lots of Eric Carle books. We took her to the 10th anniversary bash at the museum and had a great day. The works of Eric Carle light up her eyes and she loves to explore. Thank you to Eric Carle for his talent, fun and eye openings to this wonderful world.

We visited the Carle Museum 2 years ago. My wife is a teacher and her favorite is the Hungry Caterpillar. Eric autographed one of her books, when he appeared at the L.A. Times Festival of Books when it was at UCLA. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

I teach Kindergarten and all of Eric Carle's characters are our favorites. But, my personal favorite is Little Cloud. I love the endless of possibilities of transformation and the independence of the Little Cloud from the other clouds.

I love all of the books, however, the one that stands out the most is Brown Bear, brown bear. When my youngest daughter was born, six weeks early, I sung Brown Bear to her, in the NECU. once or twice daily she carries, both her brown bear stuff animal and book to me to read to her. At 18 months, this Christmas she received a doll, which she was cradling, in her rocking chair singing parts of brown bear. Both my daughters, by 12 months could point and identify the animals, on the last page.

I have so many favorites among the the Eric Carle characters, but if I have to choose it would be the caterpillar. Since that is how so many children have been introduced to Mr. Carle and even the museum has the iconic statue of a caterpillar, that will have to be my choice.

Oh the Hungry Caterpillar is our favorite. In fact, the story was performed this evening by Lexi, age 5, with the help of a Hello Kitty microphone...doesn't get any better than that!

The Caterpillar! Especially love the illustration of him with a tummy ache after he's eaten through all the food.
