Love Bugs: Happy Valentine's Day from The Carle

Happy Valentine's Day from The Carle Bookshop!

Why not celebrate this warm-fuzzy day with the cutest of all love bugs - The Very Hungry Caterpillar! This adorable image is one of many printed-to-order stretched canvas prints of Eric Carle's artwork that we sell in our Shop. You can see them all here. Why not bring some picture book love to your walls year round?

In honor of Valentine's Day, we've also pulled together some of our favorite picture books about love, kisses, hugs, and friendship. Perfect for a snuggly read with a loved one today, but also great for any day! You can view them all here.

I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg and illustrated by Jacqueline Chwast is a standard favorite of mine. Not only is it adorable, tiny and very gift-able, it reminds me of my favorite Ruth Krauss-Maurice Sendak collaborations like A Hole is to Dig or Open House for Butterflies. Full of sweet reasons paired with cute black-and-white illustrations for why two people get along, I love that I could easily give it to a friend, a sister, a grown or tiny child, or even a spouse and it would be appropriate in all situations. This particular version that we sell is a Send-a-Story. Fold over the flap on the cover and you have a place to fill out the address, place and stamp, and mail it. A mail-able book? That's my definition of the world's best Valentine. I recently gifted it in a care package to a friend feeling a bit under the weather. This page especially felt like it described our friendship quite well.

You know how to be silly

That's why I like you

Boy are you ever silly

I like you because

You know when it's time to stop being silly

Maybe day after tomorrow

Maybe never

Oops too late

It's a quarter past silly

A recent customer told me she even read this book at a wedding!

We keep it on the counter by the cash register all year round because it makes great last-minute gift for a special friend or loved one. And, seriously, who can ignore this much cute?
