Our Friend Maisy to the Rescue!

It’s another snow day for us here in Western Massachusetts and The Carle is closed today due to the weather. Settling down with my laptop this morning to do some work from home, I opened a sweet email from a co-worker gushing about how her last minute purchase in our shop yesterday has already saved the day (complete with adorable photos of her daughter for proof!).  I know many of you could be in the same boat, stuck inside on a rainy, icy or snowy day with the kids and might appreciate a fellow parent’s recommendation. Emily has sweetly agreed to share her experience with all of you. “Maisy to the rescue!”

In anticipation of what was going to be the 67th snow day this winter at home with my sweet and fast-moving toddler, I stopped into The Carle Bookshop on the lookout for something engaging and fun that we could enjoy together. It was a tall order but I knew I'd filled it when I saw The Maisy Game--a big, bright box with our beloved Maisy on the front.

We held out until 9:30 in the morning before pulling out the special surprise, and it did not disappoint! The Maisy Game is full of sturdy and familiar playing pieces and best of all can be easily adapted to suit many different ages and moods. While my 20 month old delighted in spinning the color dial and matching the different Maisy pieces to their various boards, the game can also be played in a more typical board game fashion with four or five year olds. The pieces, inspired by the warm and lovely Maisy books, also invite an open-ended imaginative play that could go in any number of directions.

What a wonderful snow day treat for us that we will treasure and use for winters to come!

Thanks for sharing, Emily!
