Picture Books We Love

Simms Taback Book Giveaway

Today we're so excited to bring you a very special giveaway! In celebration of our current exhibition Simms Taback: Art by Design (on view in our East Gallery until October 26th), we're teaming up with Blue Apple Books to offer three lucky readers a collection of 10 board books by featured artist Simms Taback.

If you're not familiar with his work, Simms Taback is the Caldecott-winning illustrator of many well-known books, such as The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and Joseph Had a Little Overcoat. His picture books are just so brilliant - they are sophisticated and clever while still being incredibly child-friendly. His iconic artwork is bold and colorful and his books are a delight to revisit again and again.

This collection of books is a great addition to any home, school or daycare library or it could make an excellent gift with the holidays right around the corner.

How to Enter:

Simply leave a comment below letting us know why you'd love this collection of books before Sunday, October 19th, 2014 11:59 pm EST. We'll randomly pick the winners and announce them here on Monday, October 20th. Only one entry per person. Good luck!

My three grandchildren, 8 and 3 year old twins, LOVE books, especially Eric Carle's. They were so fortunate last year to have books signed by him. The 8 year old and I have read many a Simms Taback book together, especially the old lady and the fly!

That would be such a fantastic addition to our school library at ISH, International school of Helsingborg in Sweden. I think we librarians should plan a trip to your Museum!

I think my son would love these. He is only 10 months but he loves flipping through books especially brightly colored ones! I wouldn't mind adding to his collection either! :)

Is it OK to apply from Japan? I'm a great fan of Eric Carle and Simms Taback. I have a small English school in Japan and it would be so nice if I could share the books with my students!

Several years ago I made reservations to fly to Burbank airport from Phoenix intending to rent a car & drive to Ventura to see the Simms Tabeck exhibit. The day before I went to print my boarding pass & discovered I have booked Burbank to Phoenix instead. I missed the exhibit! I so need these books to make up for this sad experience!

I love Mr. Taback's books because they use lots of color with dark backgrounds and I think that's interesting.

I've been a long-time fan of Simms Taback's books and art! Around 15 years ago, I made a bean bag toss game for The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly book. My students love tossing the animals she swallows through the holes on the large wooden old lady board. Thank you to The Carle for putting this show together so we all can enjoy his amazing pictures!

So much expression is held in each line! And the COLOR is so alive. Having started as a teacher before becoming a librarian, I must admit that one of my favorite books is TOO MUCH NOISE. While variations of the story continue to grow, I only see Simms Taback's illustrations whenever I hear them. My thanks to the artist for creating so many beautiful memories!

I would love these for my daughter and nieces. They are one, three, and four and love to read. You can never have too many books to share no matter what your age!

I love his Caldecott books! I volunteer for Book Harvest, a non-profit literacy organization which gets books into the hands of children whose parents/caregivers cannot afford to purchase them books. It would excite me to be able to donate these splendid books to some young readers!

When I used the Taback books with children in our school library, we talked about how much planning Mr. Taback had to do to fit the holes in the pages in just the right spots in the illustrations on both sides of the page. The stories are so clever and lyrical. Since I am currently retired, if I win, I will share these board books with a therapeutical preschool in St. Paul MN.
