...said the Mentor to the Mentee: Notes on 40 Years in Children's Publishing (1 PDP)
Speaker: Neal Porter, Vice President and Publisher, Neal Porter Books

(1 PDP)  In 2015 at The Carle Honors, an annual benefit celebrating people who have played an instrumental role in making children’s books a vibrant and influential art and literary form in America, Neal Porter received the Mentor award as a publisher of his own imprint (Roaring Brook Press) and champion of award-winning authors and illustrators. He was inspired to design his BERL lecture,  ...said the Mentor to the Mentee: Notes on 40 Years in Children's Publishing, as a tribute to the mentors who had  a profound effect on him over the course of his 40 year career in children’s book publishing. These include the composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim as well as luminaries in the field such as Margaret K. McElderry, Jean Karl, Michael diCapua, Sebastian Walker, Peter Kindersley,  and Richard Jackson.  Also included will be a few anecdotes about authors and artists he has worked with such as Laura Vaccaro Seeger, Jerry Pinkney, Philip and Erin Stead, and Yuyi Morales.
