Carle Annual Spring Appeal 2019

Dear Friend of The Carle,

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in the Auditorium, at the start of our annual lecture series for the Barbara Elleman Research Library, when a member from upstate New York leaned over and tapped me on the arm. “You must hear this all the time,” she said, “but everything you do at The Carle is so well done.”

Of course, I thanked her profusely, and I want to thank YOU, too. Every single program, exhibition, art project, guest artist, and happy visitor is made possible because of your belief in our work. I am writing today to ask you make a donation to The Carle. Each one of us on staff will take your contribution to heart and reinvest it with our own commitment to make The Carle experience an exceptional one.

With you behind us, The Carle strives to be a place that radiates good. We all believe that books and art play an essential role in our democracy—and in our quest for a compassionate society. Together we share stories that introduce children to the world around them. This year our traveling exhibitions are bringing generations together in Delaware, Georgia, New York, Tennessee, and Virginia, as well as Germany and Taiwan, underscoring the importance of picture books in our culture. The new Carle Community Fund ensures that children and families who want to visit the Museum can—no matter their ability to pay.

When Eric Carle and his late wife Barbara established the Museum almost 17 years ago, their dream was that parents, children, librarians, teachers, students, illustrators—and everyone else who loves picture books—would find inspiration, comfort, solace, and sustenance at the Museum. Your contribution will help make that dream a reality, ensuring that everything we do is worthy of Eric and Bobbie’s gift to us all.

This spring, as Eric Carle turns 90 in June and we celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, we are thanking every donor for being part of our Museum with a special “caterpillar” thank you—gift levels shown in the above photos.

If you have been inspired by The Carle—by a moment with a favorite artist or author, by a special work of art in the galleries, by a creative project shared with a loved one in the Art Studio, by a presentation in the Auditorium, or simply by the knowledge that our Museum exists so that art and reading can bring us all together—won’t you join us today with a meaningful gift to continue our work?

Our fiscal year ends on Sunday, June 30. You can make your secure gift here, call me at 413-559-6308, or send a check to us at the address in my signature. Eric Carle, the board, and staff will thank you, and our visitors—onsite, online, and around the world—will all benefit from your generosity.

In gratitude,
Rebecca Miller Goggins
Director of Development
