Homeschool Workshop: Experiments in Printmaking

Ages 6-12 with accompanying adult
Create a series of prints in this facilitated program designed to introduce printmaking techniques including collagraph, monotype, and stencilling. Maximum number of children per adult is 3, cost is per child, accompanying adults are free and invited to join.

How do you sketch a picture book idea? How do you write a story that is told both with words and images? Join picture book author and New York Times bestselling illustrator Claudia Rueda in this intensive six-hour workshop. You’ll explore the most important elements of visual writing and learn how to plan a picture book by using a storyboard and building a picture book dummy.
Please bring a bag lunch.

A Kite for Moon, co-written by New York Times bestselling author Jane Yolen and Heidi E. Y. Stemple, and illustrated by award-winning artist Matt Phelan, tells the heartfelt story about a young boy’s fascination and unlikely friendship with the moon. Dedicated to Neil Armstrong, this book pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the first US moon landing. After the storytime, guests will create their own flying kites, machines, and orbiting planets to add to Bobbie’s Meadow.

(3PDPs) Inspired by the exhibition Out of The Box: The Graphic Novel Comes of Age, this professional development workshop explores how drawing can be used to develop skills such as storytelling, vocabulary development, and writing. Carle Educators will share their ideas for games, brainstorming techniques, and material prompts that encourage students to tell their own stories through words and images.
