The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art: Recent Acquisitions

May 6 - August 7, 2005
Central Gallery

Motivated by the extraordinary facility that Eric and Bobbie Carle built to honor the art of the picture book, many collectors, artists, and artists’ families have made generous gifts of original art to the museum. This exhibition showcases a selection of those donations. Included are historic works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Arthur Rackham, Lothar Meggendorfer, and Theo van Hoytema. On view as well are works given by artists Steven Kellogg, Barry Moser, Jane Dyer, Petra Mathers, Kathryn Brown, Gennady Spirin, Wendell Minor, Tomie dePaola, and Rosemary Wells. Also featured are collages and colored pencil illustrations by Leo Lionni from the three books his family donated.
