Springtime Art Gardens

This week, we explored art inspired by gardens. Gardens can take many forms: potted plants on a window sill, a carefully planted vegetable patch, or landscaped spaces in parks. The team took some time observing, researching, and imagining gardens, and used a variety of materials to create their own. READ MORE

Butterfly Gardens

Last weekend several families joined us in The Studio for the family workshop "Butterflies and Caterpillars," where we made a series of fun spring-themed projects. One activity that was a big hit with kids and parents was working together to make a paper butterfly garden. We provided an array of colorful paste papers, stamped construction papers, and other fun accessories like pom poms and sequins to turn into beautiful flowers, leaves and butterflies.

Toddler Art Activity: Leaf and Flower Collages

Today kicked off our summer session of Materials Play - a weekly drop-in activity for especially for toddlers. Our summer intern, Aiyi, has been helping me plan the activities. We have many fun ideas, so it is hard to choose! Since the orchard is awash with greenery of all kinds, we thought we'd try an idea I've seen on Pinterest using leaves and petals to create a collage on contact paper. READ MORE
