Sticker Play

In The Art Studio, we often experiment with materials that transform a surface. Guests discover with delight the ability of watercolor to wash over a page or the way a beeswax crayon glides across paper. In continuing these experiences, we recently explored the ways in which sticky materials transform a space during our Materials Play program for toddlers and their caregivers. We played with stickers and masking tapes in a contained area (to help with clean-up) that had children and adults alike enjoying the experience. READ MORE

Toddler Art Activity: Contact Paper & Sparkly Things

Materials Play is a space and time for toddlers and their parent or caregiver to have fun in the Art Studio with materials and explorations selected especially for them. Sometimes messy, always open-ended and experimental, the 4-week series occur about once a season. Toddler Art Activity: Leaf and Flower Collages

Today kicked off our summer session of Materials Play - a weekly drop-in activity for especially for toddlers. Our summer intern, Aiyi, has been helping me plan the activities. We have many fun ideas, so it is hard to choose! Since the orchard is awash with greenery of all kinds, we thought we'd try an idea I've seen on Pinterest using leaves and petals to create a collage on contact paper. READ MORE
