Mina’s Special Saturday: That’s a Wrap! Painting with Texture

Recently one of the Art Studio's Summer Interns, Mina Puig, designed a Special Saturday project for museum guests inspired by her love of textured painting. Music, Motion, and Marks: Oil Pastels and Long Paintbrushes

On one of our Friday morning sessions of Materials Play this year, we offered a two-phase invitation to create. At our low table, toddlers and preschoolers experimented with chubby oil pastels on large white pieces of paper. When they felt done with the pastels, they brought the paper over to a setup on the floor to play with paint brushes taped to long sticks and black tempera paint while standing. READ MORE

Gross-Motor Bubble Wrap Stamping

We offered this exploration to activate our toddler and preschool guests' gross-motor skills. Through printmaking with big, homemade bubble wrap stamps and large sheets of drawing paper, this exploration had kids reaching, crawling, and walking, as well as sharing and turn-taking.
