Happy Spring to you all! I apologize for being so absent recently as I’ve been so crazy busy here at the store! I hope you’ll excuse the re-post of our bunny Picture Book Puzzler from last year. It’s an oldie but a goodie!
Can you name all of the picture books below based on the bunny illustration? Put your guesses in the comments below and I’ll be back with the answers.

Happy Spring! There’s one favorite classic children’s novel of mine that I re-read every year in the spring. Can you guess what book it is by the quote below?
“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like? You don’t see it in rooms if you are ill.”
“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine, and things pushing up and working under the earth…”
What a lovely and perfect way to describe spring. Do you recognize the book? Put your guesses in the comments below and I’ll be back at the end of the week with the answer.

We’re close to spring. I can feel it. This may very well be the most mild winter I’ve ever experienced. It’s not even March and already I can see little bits of green poking up in my flower gardens as my daffodils and tulips emerge. This has put me in a mood for the color green! So, for this week’s puzzler, I’ve collected ten green covers of popular picture books. Can you name each book from the small glimpse of its cover? Put your guesses in the comments below and I’ll be back at the end of the week with the answers. Think spring!

The winter is always my favorite time to spend time in my kitchen, roll up my sleeves and cook up something delicious or warm. Whether it’s a loaf of fresh bread, a new soup recipe or something sweet for a friend’s birthday, spending the time to make something delicious by hand is always so rewarding. Cooking and baking with kids can also be such a great activity. There are tons of kid-friendly recipes for you and your young ones to try available online and in cookbooks. Reading picture books about cooking together is also a great way to get hesitant little chefs excited about trying to cook. For today’s Picture Book Puzzler, I’ve pulled some images of chefs and bakers from ten different picture books. Can you name each book? Put your guesses in the comments below and I’ll be back at the end of the week with answers.

I’ve been watching clips of the BBC’s new documentary, Frozen Planet, and falling in love all over again with penguins. Check out this very funny clip of “criminal” penguins from the documentary:

How sneaky was that penguin! So I’ve been inspired to put together a puzzler of penguins from children’s books. Can you name each book? Good luck and I’ll see you at the end of the week with the answers!

Just a side thought: Isn’t it remarkable how many children’s books have a penguin showing up uninvited at someone’s house, usually in a box? Do you have another favorite penguin book?

We’re excited to have the wonderful CactusHead Puppets back at The Carle for a whole week of puppet shows! The performance each day will be Little Red Riding Hood and to celebrate, this week’s Picture Book Puzzler is all images from the familiar fairy tale. Little Red Riding Hood has seen many different interpretations by picture book illustrators over the years. Can you name each of the artists below? Put your guesses in the comments and I’ll be back on Friday with the answers. And if you’re in the area, come by to see the puppet show!

The fairy tale of Cinderella has been reinvented and re-illustrated many, many times in children’s picture books. Here’s a small selection of versions we carry in the store. Can you identify the illustrator by his or her artistic interpretation of the Cinderella tale? Here’s a hint: One of these artists is featured in our gallery right now! Good luck and I’ll be back on Friday with the answers.
