Eric Carle's Book Birthdays

This exhibition honors 13 Eric Carle titles marking their 20th, 25th, and 50th birthdays in 2022 and 2023. They include The Very Long Train, From Head to Toe, and Hello, Red Fox, among others. Animals appear in each book, underscoring Carle’s love of using nature to tell stories.

What to Expect 

Get ready to party! On view are 50 original artworks by Eric Carle, representing 13 books titles. In the gallery, guests can read books, design birthday cards, peek “inside” presents, and play a party game.

Eric Carle

Eric Carle illustrated brilliant and innovatively designed picture books for children, including his most well-known title, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In 2002, Carle and his wife, Barbara, co-founded The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.
