Wordless Storytelling with Balint Zsako

How do you tell a story without using a single word? This was the challenge artist Balint Zsako set for himself when creating Bunny & Tree—a 184-page wonder of purely visual storytelling. In this artist talk, enter the wondrous world of wordless books! Balint will share his path into the arts and publishing, his creative process in illustration and gallery work, and his approach to crafting visual narratives. After his presentation, the floor will be open for audience questions, as we hope to make this talk as engaging and interactive as possible.

Who You'll Meet

Balint Zsako

Balint Zsako was born in Budapest, Hungary to a textile artist mother and a sculptor father. His family immigrated to Canada when he was ten years old. At university, he studied photography, but for the last 20 years, he has been exhibiting paintings and collages. Naming Balint a Spring 2023 Flying Start, Publishers Weekly selected his book Bunny & Tree as one of the season’s six most promising children’s debuts. Balint’s drawings were featured in Take This Waltz, a film by Sarah Polley, and his illustrations have appeared in the New Yorker, Harper’s, and the New York Times Magazine. He lives in Los Angeles with his family.
