Picture Books We Love

ShopTalks: Random Acts of Kindness

Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day! Hannah and Allie from The Carle Bookshop got on Zoom to talk about four of their favorite picture books about being kind and helping others be kinder. They also ask each other what random acts of kindness they can do today to help spread some much-needed joy. This is the latest in a series of videos called Bookshop Talks where members of the Carle Bookshop team discuss their favorite titles in a variety of subjects.

Wreck This Picture Book!

Wrecking isn't always a bad thing. Books like to be read and used - the more actively the better. The Carle's Literacy Educator David Feinstein shares Keri Smith's newest book, Wreck this Picture Book, with young readers to explore all the exciting ways the book invites open-ended, multisensory exploration.

Black Voices: Picture Books as Antiracist Resources

As an institution, The Carle is committed to listening and learning about racism and the legacy of white-dominated narratives. We continue to reflect on our own gaps in knowledge, to learn and adopt antiracist practices, and to think critically about the books we choose to highlight in our programs and spaces.  As part of this work, The Carle Bookshop and Reading Library staff have been looking deeply and critically at our collections. Whose voices have been amplified or silenced on our shelves? Working together with Literacy Educator, David Feinstein, we wanted to share resources and books we found helpful when doing our own reflections and research, as well as highlight new, important and much needed additions to our shelves.
