Assisted Listening Devices
Assistive Listening Devices are available for auditorium events. Please stop at the admissions desk to request a device. When available, films are subtitled.

Dining (The Carle Cafe is closed due to the pandemic)
The Carle Café offers a spacious area for eating but does not have a restaurant. We offer Berkshire Naturals, a vending machine stocked with healthy snacks. Complimentary coffee is provided, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Esselon Coffee Roasting. Visitors are welcome to bring food to eat in the Café or to picnic outside. Atkins Farms Country Market, less than a quarter of a mile away, has salads, soups, and sandwiches; Esselon, a ten-minute drive, offers a complete café menu.

Medical Bags
Visitors are welcome to bring a large bag into the galleries if needed for medical reasons. Please check in with a guest services representative at the admissions desk.

The Carle is all one level and wheelchair accessible. Power assist doors are located at the Museum’s main entrance and gallery entrance. There is also a power assist door and paved pathway leading to Bobbie’s Meadow.

Wheelchair accessible seating is available for auditorium events. To reserve wheelchair accessible seats, please call 413-559-6301.

Manual wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers are available free of charge in the Museum’s coat room first-come, first-served. Please return them to the coat room at the end of your visit. The Carle also welcomes personal wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and strollers.

The Carle’s parking lot includes accessible parking for vehicles with disability permits and are available on a first-come, first served basis.

Personal care attendants
Personal care attendants are admitted free of charge.

Public Transportation
Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) buses makes stops in Amherst. The R29, 38, and 39 buses stop at Hampshire College, right next to the Museum. The 36 bus makes a stop at nearby Atkins Farms.

Restrooms and Water Fountains
Accessible restrooms and water fountains are located next to the Art Studio and Café. Changing tables are available in all restrooms.

All-gender or gender-inclusive restrooms are restroom facilities that anyone of any gender can use. Accessible all-gender restrooms are located by the Museum Café.

Gender-specific restrooms are those marked “Men” or “Women.” Accessible gender-specific restrooms are located by the Art Studio.

Seating is available in the Great Hall, Reading Library, Art Studio, Café, and Galleries.

Service Dogs
Trained service dogs are permitted in the building under the following guidelines;

•    A service dog must be on a leash and under the control of the owner/handler at all times.
•    A service dog must be house trained. The owner/handler is responsible for the cleanup of any accidents the service dog has, and should have the necessary cleaning supplies on hand.
•    If a service dog is out of control or shows disruptive behavior, the owner/handler will be asked to remove the dog from the Museum.
