At The Carle: A sampling of The Book Maker's Dozen

We are so excited about this month's Book Talk interview! This Sunday, October 16th we won't have just one illustrator here at The Carle for an interview, we'll have five! This Sunday join our bookseller Andy Laties and our friend (and one of our favorite customers) Susannah Richards for a lively interview with five amazing picture book illustrators: READ MORE

Picture Book Puzzler: Wonderland

This week's puzzler is about one of my very favorite classics: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. Many (and I mean MANY) illustrators, both of children's and of adult literature, have paid homage to this adventure story with their own interpretations. We have a fairly extensive collection of different versions of both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking-Glass in our store and I've noticed that my own personal collection is getting larger as well. Below I've included just a few favorite versions. READ MORE

Picture Book Puzzler: Little Red Riding Hood

We're excited to have the wonderful CactusHead Puppets back at The Carle for a whole week of puppet shows! The performance each day will be Little Red Riding Hood and to celebrate, this week's Picture Book Puzzler is all images from the familiar fairy tale. Little Red Riding Hood has seen many different interpretations by picture book illustrators over the years. Can you name each of the artists below? Put your guesses in the comments and I'll be back on Friday with the answers. And if you're in the area, come by to see the puppet show! READ MORE

Picture Book Puzzler: Cinderella

The fairy tale of Cinderella has been reinvented and re-illustrated many, many times in children's picture books. Here's a small selection of versions we carry in the store. Can you identify the illustrator by his or her artistic interpretation of the Cinderella tale? Here's a hint: One of these artists is featured in our gallery right now! Good luck and I'll be back on Friday with the answers. READ MORE

Picture Book Puzzler: Here Comes the Sun

With all this rain we've been having, I've been craving a little sunshine. I love all the very different and distinct ways different picture book artists portray the sun in their books. For today's puzzler, can you name the artist that created each unique sun? Put your guesses in the comments below and I'll be back on Friday with the answers! 1. READ MORE
