The Carle Honors Annual Benefit Gala and Art Auction

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the 2020 Carle Honors is being re-imagined as a virtual benefit to support the Museum and its art and literacy programs. The annual art auction will be its focus, and two pieces will be auctioned live during the virtual event on Thursday, September 24, 2020. Participating auction artists, additional details about the event, and opportunities to support The Carle will be forthcoming.

Held in New York City, The Carle Honors is the Museum's annual benefit gala. At the heart of the Honors are four awards celebrating individuals whose creative vision and dedication are an inspiration to everyone who values picture books and their role in arts education and literacy. The awards, selected each year by a committee chaired by Leonard S. Marcus, founder of the Honors, recognize individuals in four distinct forms:

  • Artist, for lifelong innovation in the field;
  • Mentor, editors, designers, and educators who champion the art form;
  • Angel, whose generous resources are crucial to making picture book art exhibitions, education programs, and related projects a reality; and
  • Bridge, individuals who have found inspired ways to bring the art of the picture book to larger audiences through work in other fields.

The Carle Honors Art Auction, a key fundraiser for the event, features original works of art donated by some of the industry’s most celebrated artists. Bids can be place online in advance of the event, or in-real time that night on-site or via absentee bids. The auction ends at 9:00 sharp!

Please join us for the next Carle Honors! Tickets can be bought individually or in blocks. Sponsorships include name and logo placement, media listings, and additional benefits. Educators have an opportunity for a special reduced ticket for presentation and dessert.
