The Carle is following the current CDC and Massachusetts state guidelines.  
  • Unvaccinated visitors should wear a mask. (Children under 3 are advised not to wear a mask.)  
  • Vaccinated visitors can choose whether to unmask or continue to wear a mask – it's every individual’s personal choice.  
  • Please respect our staff and visitors by continuing to social distance. 

We care about your health and safety. We have capacity limits in place throughout the Museum to create the space necessary for you to maintain a 6-foot distance. Children must stay with their adult(s) at all times. 

Advance ticket purchase is highly recommended as visitor capacity is reduced. 


Cancellation Policy

Prior to visiting The Carle, if you or a member of your family/group are exposed to or showing symptoms of COVID-19, please call us during Museum hours at 413-559-6301 for a complete refund and we will release those tickets to other visitors. 

August Adventures

The Carle is pleased to be participating The Highland Street Foundation's August Adventures summer program. Admission to The Carle on Thursday, August 19 is free. Advance reservations are recommended as visitor capacity is limited.

Mask-Only Free Sundays

To accommodate our immunocompromised Museum friends and anyone else who wants to be in a masks-only space, we are planning a few free admission, masks-required Sundays. Advance tickets are highly recommended as visitor capacity is reduced.

Social Distance

For everyone’s safety, guests are encouraged to maintain six feet of distance between Museum staff and other guests outside their group. Children must stay with their adult(s) at all times. 


Visitors and staff must practice regular hand hygiene while on-site. Signs are posted to remind visitors to wash their hands and use the hand sanitizer units stationed throughout the Museum. 

Cleaning & Ventilation

The Carle is professionally cleaned daily when open to the public. Our high-quality HVAC system has been adjusted for maximum ventilation throughout the building. 

Museum Shop

If the shop is at capacity, visitors can wait in a socially distanced line until they are able to enter. 

Visitors can also shop online at and arrange for home delivery or curbside pickup. While debit or credit cards are preferred (to reduce cash handling), cash will be accepted. 


Amenities such as the café, vending machine, and water fountains are now available.

Art Studio

To make art in the studio, reserve a timed session when checking in at the Admissions Desk. Additional tickets are now available throughout the day.
