New Hours

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: Closed
Thursday-Friday:     10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Saturday:                 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Sunday:                   12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

To ensure the health and safety of all our visitors and staff we have new protocols in place. We will continue to update these as the Massachusetts Board of Health releases new information.

All visitors will be asked to attest that they will follow all Massachusetts and local guidelines, which includes masks and social distancing.  All visitors from out of state should check the Massachusetts website before traveling. Visitors from many states are now restricted from entering Massachusetts and must complete state forms and meet strict requirements before visiting. Those visitors exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or who have recently been exposed should not visit the Museum. We reserve the right to ask visitors to leave the Museum if they are not following protocols. Adults are expected to help the children in their group follow these guidelines.

Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended as visitor capacity is reduced. Members and non-members can make an online reservation for a specific day and arrival time block (morning or afternoon). We ask that visitors arrive during the time block listed on their reservation so we can manage the number of people in the building at a given time. On average, a visit to The Carle lasts 1.5 – 2 hours.

*Includes Library Passes

If you are unable to reserve your tickets online, please call us during Museum hours at 413-559-6301 to reserve by phone. A limited number of walk-up tickets are available each day. While debit or credit cards are preferred for ticket payment (to reduce cash handling), cash will be accepted. Visitor contact information will be collected at the time of ticket purchase in case contact tracing is needed.

Cancellation Policy
Prior to visiting The Carle, if you or a member of your family/group are exposed to or showing symptoms of COVID-19, please call us during Museum hours at 413-559-6301 for a complete refund and we will release those tickets to other visitors.

Face Coverings

All staff and visitors (ages 6 and up) must wear a face covering that covers the mouth and nose when inside the Museum. Face coverings are encouraged for children ages 2-5, in conjunction with state guidelines. Children under two years of age are not asked to wear a face covering.

Face coverings are required in Bobbie’s Meadow if visitors are unable to maintain at least six feet of social distancing space.

If you cannot wear a face covering due to a medical condition, please inform our Admissions Desk staff upon your arrival.

Social Distance

All visitors must maintain six feet of distance between Museum staff and other guests outside their group. Children must stay with their adult(s) at all times.

Visitors and staff must practice regular hand hygiene while on-site. Signs are posted to remind visitors to wash their hands and use the hand sanitizer units stationed throughout the Museum.

Cleaning & Ventilation

The Carle is professionally cleaned twice daily when open to the public. Throughout the day staff and a professional janitorial service will clean high-touch areas such as table surfaces and door handles on a regular basis.

Our high-quality HVAC system has been adjusted for maximum ventilation throughout the building.

Reduced Capacity

The Carle is operating at reduced capacity, in accordance with state guidelines. There are capacity limits for different spaces in the Museum, including the Art Studio, Galleries, Reading Library, and Bookshop. Capacity signs will be located throughout the Museum, and some spaces may require guests to wait in a socially distanced line before entering.

Print Materials and Activities

A kit including a Museum scavenger hunt, activity sheets, and colored pencils will be provided to each family/group at the Admissions Desk upon arrival. Colored pencils should be returned to the Admissions Desk at the end of a visit so they can be disinfected.

Art Studio

Each family/group checking in at the Admissions Desk will be asked if they wish to schedule a timed session in The Art Studio. A set number of 25-minute sessions are available throughout the day.

If all timed sessions in the Art Studio are booked, families/groups can pick up an Art Project To Go! bag, which includes the same materials used in the Art Studio project. These take-away art project bags can be enjoyed out in Bobbie’s Meadow or back at home.

Art Project to Go! bags are available for curbside pick-up for members, access pass holders, and library pass borrowers.

Each Art Project to Go! contains materials to make your own mobile:

  •     Variety of paper found materials
  •     Assorted collage papers
  •     Envelope of stickers
  •     Yarn
  •     Flyer with prompts for art-making, and how to sustainably dispose of materials.

To request curbside pickup, please email with the following information:

  •    Your name
  •    How many bags you’d like (one bag per person please)
  •    Your membership/library pass/access pass number
  •    The date you’d like to pick-up the bags (Please allow at least 48 hours between placing your order and your suggested pick-up time. Pick-ups are during Museum opening hours only.)

An Art Educator will respond by email to confirm your Art Project to Go! reservation and to provide instructions for pick-up.

Museum Shop

The Museum Bookshop will allow 8 visitors at a time. If the shop is at capacity, visitors can wait in a socially distanced line until they are able to enter.

Visitors can also shop online at and arrange for home delivery or curbside pickup. While debit or credit cards are preferred (to reduce cash handling), cash will be accepted.

Closed Amenities During this Time

The Café is closed and the vending machine is not available. Water fountains must also be closed.
No food or drink is allowed inside the Museum (except water and baby bottles). We invite all visitors to picnic outside in Bobbie’s Meadow.
