Mordicai Gerstein: The Man Who Walked Between the Towers

August 17 - December 5, 2004
Central Gallery

The author and illustrator of over 30 picture books, Mordicai Gerstein loves his job: “Making books…is film, drawing, and theater all in one.” Gerstein’s multidisciplinary approach is on brilliant display in his Caldecott Medal book The Man Who Walked Between the Towers. Published two years after 9/11, Gerstein memorializes the World Trade Center through the lens of Philippe Petit’s extraordinary high-wire walk in 1974. Gerstein captures the drama and poetry of the event in a series of gravity defying drawings while poignantly evoking a full range of human emotion.
